Former MISFITS Frontman, NIHILISTICS Added To BOBBY STEELE Benefit at CBGB
February 19, 2006Former MISFITS singer Michale Graves, legendary New York punks the NIHILISTICS and shock rockers HYMEN HOLOCAUST have been added to the bill for the benefit show for former MISFITS/current THE UNDEAD guitarist Bobby Steele's Legal Defense Fund, to be held March 17 at CBGB in New York City.
Graves is currently touring in support of his solo debut, "Punk Rock Is Dead" (Horror High Records). His special performance will offer longtime MISFITS fans the rare opportunity to see two former MISFITS bandmembers on the same bill.
THE UNDEAD, who will be hitting the stage for the first time in four years, recently reunited with former PIGFACE drummer Joel Gausten, who rejoined THE UNDEAD in February following a three-year stint in Los Angeles. Gausten previously played in the band from 1998 to 1999, and again in 2002. Other special guests/bands for the benefit will be announced shortly.
A mainstay of the New York City punk/underground scene since the 1970s, Steele served as the guitarist for legendary horror punks the MISFITS from 1978 to 1980. He appeared on the band's classic "Horror Business" and "Night of the Living Dead" EPs, and is often credited as the driving force behind the band's most popular songs. In 1980, Steele formed THE UNDEAD, whose debut live performance at the now-legendary A7 Club in January 1981 is often credited for spawning the New York hardcore (NYHC) music scene. Since 1982, Steele/THE UNDEAD has sold nearly 100,000 albums worldwide and has been featured in numerous music books and documentaries. In 1995, the band contributed music to the cult classic film "Welcome To The Dollhouse". In addition to his work in THE UNDEAD, Steele has appeared in numerous films and television shows and is an outspoken public advocate for marijuana law reform.
